New App to Issue Traffic Jam and Diversion Alerts to Motorists

The launch of this pioneering app will solve several problems on roads and make driving experiences easier in congested urban zones.

The traffic department will be launching a unique mobile application for bettering public engagement and providing easy access to information on traffic conditions. This app will improve traffic management greatly as traffic cops are already grappling with lack of manpower. There are a paltry 120 officers on duty in the city with 80 of them tackling traffic management. According to the SP (traffic), Noida, Ram Nayan Yadav, the mobile application will be offering traffic alerts and traffic advisory services.

Information will be available with regard to towed vehicles, traffic jams, emergency contacts and registration of complaints. The application development procedure is in its final lap and it should be launched in the first week of December, 2015 according to Yadav. The app would help traffic cops manage the situation on the ground. Around 80 officers manage traffic while the remainder are kept held up by office work and some are on leave at present. The app will be alerting motorists in case any particular route is closed for a particular period of time and even in case of any diversion.

Registration of mobile phone numbers will also help users receive direct traffic alerts including unplanned scenarios such as road closing, vehicle breakdowns, blockage of roads for specific time periods, jams and even water logging. The Noida traffic police are already active on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter. The traffic police have already conducted its online survey for garnering feedback on improving the traffic system in the city. As per suggestions, the police decided to launch this mobile app. The mobile app can be used on Android smartphones and will soon be accessible for iPhone and Windows phone users as well.
