The i20 was the first premium hatchback from Hyundai. After the success of the i10, the i20 was launched to cater to the more aspirational buyer. The i20 had is debut in 2009 and had buyers queuing for it within no time. It offered contemporary looks, class-leading space and came feature laden.
The Hyundai i20 came on both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol was a 1.2 liter unit with 83bhp power and 114Nm of torque.
The diesel was a 1.4 liter unit that churned out 89bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. There was also a 1.4 liter petrol engine however, it was available only in the automatic variant.
i20 has been a popular car and most buyers were mainly urban customers. It was available in multiple trim options which were Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta. The top-end Asta came with features like, 6 airbags, ABS, Automatic climate control, bluetooth, steering mounted audio controls, electric retractable mirrors, leather steering and gear knob,etc.
What to look for
The Hyundai i20 which has clocked around 50,000-70,000 kms is prone to develop some creaks and rattles. Door hinges need to be checked. Under body damage should be checked. The clutch also tends to get heavy with usage, so check for clutch plate replacement. Suspension check and and overhaul is important and the i20 did not exactly have the best of suspensions.Other general areas like, battery, electrical, switches need to be checked. the i20’s AC cooling has some issues in earlier lots and same was with the brakes. check if these have been upgraded.

The Hyundai i20 can be bought anywhere between Rs. 3.5 lakhs to Rs. 6.5 lakhs, depending upon the variant and mileage clocked. The i20 is a decent used car buy as its provides very good space, a decent feature package and easy serviceability. Though the petrol version is not great on performance, it is an easy to drive car around the city.
