Tata Zica Official Pictures Unveiled Before Formal Premiere

Post the leak of interior and exterior images of the car, Tata has released official images of its Zica today on prominent social media platforms.

The Tata Zica gets its name from Zippy Car and will be offered for a media premiere later this week even though the formal launch will take place in early 2016 according to reports. The first week of January 2016 could witness an introduction of this vehicle. The Zica is based on a comprehensively modified platform of the Tata Indica and will be positioned right below the Tata Bolt. It will be replacing the Indica in the passenger vehicle division while the Indica should be continuing in the commercial vehicle segment. The car will also be competing with smaller hatchbacks such as the Chevrolet Beat, Hyundai i10 and Maruti Suzuki Celerio.

There will also be a future sedan based on this compact hatchback. The Zica will be powered by a new 1.2 litre three cylinder engine and a 1.05 litre three cylinder diesel engine. The latter is a modified version of the 1.4 litre four cylinder engine in Tata’s lineup. The engines should come with both manual and automated manual transmission options. The interiors of the Zica reveal an all new three spoke short diameter steering wheel in addition to a 2 DIN music system, integrated music controls and chrome door handles. Additional features include front and rear power windows, ABS, dual front airbags, alloy wheels, rear wiper, rear parking sensors and a washer.

This third new product under the HorizoNext strategy of Tata, will definitely come with an aggressive and sporty exterior. Similar to the Zest sub-compact sedan and Bolt hatchback, the Zica has been collaboratively designed by three Tata Motors design studios in Turin, Pune and Coventry. The new hatchback should be sharing the cabin design of the Zest and Bolt even though official interior pictures have not been released till now. The Zica should be coming with the revised XO platform and will be an apt substitute for the Indica eV2. Expected prices should range between INR 3-4 lakh on an ex-showroom basis.
