Kawasaki SC-02 Concept Illustration Presented at EICMA 2015

Kawasaki SC-02 Concept illustration at EICMA 2015

Kawasaki revealed an illustration of a forced-induction motorcycle concept called the Kawasaki SC-02 “Soul Charger” at the EICMA 2015 motorcycle show in Milan. This new concept comes close on the heels of the SC-01 Concept that was displayed earlier last month at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show in Japan.

A year after the launch of the supercharged Ninja H2/H2R bikes, the Japanese manufacturer Kawasaki has been in the news a lot when it comes to forced induction motorcycles. There were many rumours about Kawasaki working on a mid-sized supercharged motorcycle much ahead even of this year’s Tokyo Motor Show. We did not see any new bikes in flesh at the Japanese motor show but Kawasaki displayed a prototype of a 600 cc supercharged engine that was still under development.

But, with just the illustrations of a concept model and not actually showing us any real concept, it looks like Kawasaki has been trying to understand the reaction of consumers and associated press to the idea of supercharged middle-weight motorcycles. This clearly shows that Kawasaki is still in the very early stages of development of a new supercharged bike.

We have spoken on numerous occasions about how Kawasaki would want to capitalize on the experience and developmental knowledge gained with the Ninja H2/H2R projects and its huge success. But, nevertheless, Kawasaki seems to be quiet serious about the idea of a middle-weight supercharged motorcycle with two new concepts already being revealed in a short span of just one month.

The Kawasaki SC-02 Concept was unveiled by the President of Kawasaki Motorcycle & Engine Company, Mr. Kenji Tomida. He goes on to say that with the SC-01 and SC-02 concepts, they are trying to show that the supercharger technology is scalable. He went on to add that Kawasaki has not really decided upon the displacement for the SC-02 “Soul Charger” concept or if it would even make it to production.

Mr. Tomida was also quiet apologetic about the 2016 line-up during his address to the EICMA crowd and promised that Kawasaki will have 12 new models for the 2017 and 2018 model years.

All said, we are eagerly waiting for Kawasaki to come up with more supercharged motorcycles early in the near future that would be affordable and also more street oriented unlike that Ninja H2/H2R. We hope that the 12 new models that Mr. Tomida mentioned for the 2017 and 2018 line-up would also include a couple of supercharged production models as well.
