The EICMA 2015 has seen Yamaha showcase its new bike, the MT 03 which is the naked version of the R series motorcycle, the YZF R3. The MT 03 has the same mechanics as its sibling the Yamaha R3, without the fairing.
The changes that are noticeable include a raised and flat handlebar, single headlight, tank extensions and stickers on body work and instrument cluster. Even though the back section is akin to YZF R3, Yamaha has managed to give the MT 03 an individualistic character. The minimum body panels have made the steel trellis frame exposed and the contrasting blue colour adds to its street fighter look. A short belly pan dangles below the frame and pairs well with the overall style of MT 03. The tyre size and wheels are similar to YZF R3.
The Yamaha MT 03 has the same motor as well. The parallel twin engine which is liquid cooled produces torque of 29.6 Nm and 42 PS of power. Upon testing the YZF R3 on the road and on track, the refined engine was much appreciated. The Yamaha MT 03 is around 4 kilos lighter than YZF R3 because of the reduced bodywork. It lends more power to weight ratio to the naked motorcycle.
The Yamaha YZF R3 is already being sold in India and the MT 03 may be introduced in the country sooner than one expects. The firm might also showcase the bike at 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The MT 03 shall be in direct competition with Kawasaki Z250, Benelli TNT 300 and KTM 390 along with the BMW G310 R.
