You know that feeling? Where you drag yourself out of bed every morning and manage to get to the sink? You brush your teeth, slap some jam on toast and head out to work with your shirt unbuttoned and your head a complete blank. Doesn’t feel so good does it?
‘What you do in the morning defines the rest of your day’, said some famous man. It’s true. Start your morning the right way, and you’ll be on a high throughout. Begin your day the wrong way, and the office can be a living hell. Try these 5 rituals, for an easier, more fulfilling time at work.
Jump Out Of Bed
Waking up early is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself. If you’re supposed to report to work at 10am, wake up between 5am and 8am. That gives you enough time to collect your thoughts before rushing out into the outside world, where chaos robs you of your sanity. Getting up early also lets you get out of zombie mode a lot sooner.
Flex Those Muscles
Get a yoga mat, lay it out on the floor, and practice some light stretching. Muscles become stiff after staying in one position for too long, and releasing the tension can jolt you awake. It might be a little difficult to get used to, but once you do, you’ll feel ecstatic. Your blood will stop crawling at a glacial pace and pump itself through every artery till your body is supercharged for the day. It’ll help you deal with work in the right mindset.
Soothe Your Mind
If you’ve been on an electronic device the night before, your mind is probably a jumble of thoughts in the morning. Calm it down. Spend a good amount of time meditating. Just sit still, close your eyes and let your thoughts flow.
Now, disassociate yourself from your thoughts and focus on your breathing. Don’t stop the thoughts, because it’s nearly impossible! Just let the thoughts play in the background, and concentrate on the rise and fall of your chest. Your mind will be clear in no time, and you’ll be able to laugh off the troubles at work.
Do The Essentials
Take a cold shower and eat a hearty breakfast. Showering with chilled water is the best way to awaken your senses and feel alive. You’ll feel refreshed and rejuvenated, and the water will wash away the dizziness you normally experience in the mornings.
Figure out what you want to eat for breakfast and put in extra effort to prepare it. Having a good breakfast can elevate your mood and put you in the right frame of mind to take on the day. Make sure you pack a lot of essential nutrients into your meal so that you’ll have enough energy for a good day at work.
Listen to music or a podcast that gets you fired up. You can even watch a motivational video to get the adrenaline pumping. Whatever it is, do something that excites you and lets you remember that you have a greater purpose. It’s not always easy to be positive while going to work, but a little motivation can keep you invigorated for the whole day.
There are large variety of jobs out there, and each one has its own unique approach with regard to things like timings, required work, and satisfaction levels. You need to understand the requirements of your job and tailor your day accordingly. To make this happen, use some of these methods and add your own feel-good techniques. Just find a successful morning routine, and you won’t just survive the day, you’ll thrive.
