Second Commercial Driver Training Institute Launched in Uttarakhand

The Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) will be setup jointly by Tata Motors and the state government. The existing IDTR at Uttarakhand’s Jhajra village in Dehradun is a JV between Maruti Suzuki and the state transport department.

This will be the second state of the art training facility in the state and will be located at Haldwani in the Kumaon belt. The IDTR will be coming up in a huge campus spanning 10 acres. The total cost of the project has been estimated to be around INR 17 crore. This JV is a feather in Tata’s cap according to experts as Maruti Suzuki also garnered immense goodwill from its partnership with the state transport department with regard to the first IDTR at Jhajra.

This facility will adhere to global standards as far as testing tracks are concerned. The existing IDTR also spans an area of 10 acres. According to Sunita Singh, the state deputy transport commissioner, a fresh proposal has been dispatched to the Indian government that seeks financial sanctions for developing the second IDTR. The earlier sanctioned amount courtesy the government was not enough to commence the project. Work will be starting immediately after funds are received.

As per transport department officials, this new driving institute will possess all cutting edge facilities including a driving range for practicing driving on road and maneuvering, innovative systems for driving testing and a driving simulator for driving both light and heavy motor vehicles. This development has been hailed by the commercial vehicles industry in India.
