Suzuki GSX Concept, Cradle To The Future?

Suzuki GSX concept

Well in time before the 44th annual Tokyo Motor Show 2015 Suzuki Motor Corporation has shared a press release with the list of exhibits it plans to unveil. Suzuki’s booth at the Motor Show would be themed on “SUZUKI NEXT 100” as Suzuki will be celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2020.

Among the range of production and concept models to be displayed would be the Suzuki Concept GSX which they term it as “a concept object that encapsulates the potential of the GSX series”. The press release also includes a picture of what looks like a clay model of the future GSX series models.

What we know is that the GSX-R models are in need of a serious upgrade which is already way overdue. But what we are not sure about is whether Suzuki will be unveiling any of the new updated GSX’s at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015. From the information available at the moment, the new GSX-R’s are expected to come out in mid-2016 which would make them 2017 model year motorcycles. The updated bikes are speculated to be revealed at the EICMA or the INTERMOT show later this year.

As far as the GSX concept model goes, the design looks very aerodynamic with flowing lines and an integrated headlight and indicator styling. Apart from this, the concept does not reveal any more details.

The press release states: “Suzuki’s powerful, rider-friendly inline-four engines deliver an outstanding combination of fuel economy and endurance. Their technologies are reflected in numerous GSX-series models including the GSX-R1000, the Hayabusa, and the GSX-S1000. The concept GSX symbolises the high-performance bikes that bear the GSX name. It gives form to Suzuki’s inline-four sports bike-making spirit and evokes a cocoon from which the company’s future sports bike models will be born.”

What we can take from the above statement is that Suzuki is working on new models to compete with its rivals. Adding to the speculation are the recent patent filings by Suzuki Motor Corporation for a turbocharged bike and also a bike with Variable Valve Timing technology. Also Suzuki being back into MotoGP, the engine, chassis and electronics also might get a serious upgrade which could be heavily borrowed from the MotoGP bike. It would be safe to assume that the latest offering would be as technologically advanced as its competitors and would take on the likes of Kawasaki H2R and the Yamaha YZF-R1M in the hyper-bike and super-sport segment respectively.
