Pants start to fade, holes appear in T-shirts, and everything slowly loses its lustre. Yes, we’re talking about clothes that’ve been around for awhile.
Most people decide to donate their old clothes, unless they’re turned into handy towels that are used to mop up curry stains on the dining table.
But it’s time to think out of the box, tap into your inner genius, and figure out a creative way to use old clothes. You might even end up making some money off the clothes that you don’t use anymore.
If they’re in decent shape, you can sell clothes online too.
- Soft Pillows
Don’t you just love lounging on the couch after a busy day at work? Imagine how comfortable this period of relaxation would be with some Super-soft pillows.
Here’s what you can do if you have an old sweater that’s been with you through thick and thin (sometimes, literally). If you can’t bear to throw it away, why not convert it into a pillow?!
First, tear up the clothes that you aren’t too fond of and use them as stuffing material. Then, get someone with more stitching expertise than you to cover this stuffing with your favourite sweater.
Voila! You now have a snug pillow to hug whenever you get into that cute-animal video-watching mood.
- Scented Socks
If you skim through your sock collection, you’re sure to find some pretty beat-up ones. But a couple of holes isn’t enough to stop your socks from playing a leading role in your life.
First, separate the socks which have 2 to 3 small holes, and give them a thorough washing and perform some minor surgery with a thread and a needle. The rest, you can use to clean up spills.
Next, make a potpourri of flower petals and spices that you like. You can buy spices at your local supermarket, and as for petals, find a friendly neighbour who’s willing to let you pluck a few from their garden.
Stuff this mixture into your socks and place them strategically in the various nooks and crannies of your house. Tailor-made bundles of great scents wherever you want them!
See, socks don’t have to be smelly.
- Bright Blankets
Everyone has T-shirts with cool, splashy Star Wars logos or pictures of Optimus Prime from the Transformers. When these T-shirts don’t fit, it’s painful to throw them out, right? Wouldn’t it be better to sleep with Optimus Prime protecting your chest, or Luke Skywalker watching over you?
Simply turn your T-shirts into a personalised quilt!
Cut out all the pieces that you absolutely adore and stitch them onto a blanket in any pattern that you like. It would be a lot easier to evenly spread the T-shirts over the quilt if you cut them into squares.
Be prepared though, because you may not have a very attractive quilt the first couple of tries. But once you’ve spent enough time doing this, your stitching skills will be top-notch and you’ll be able to make killer blankets.
Old clothes are full of memories, and throwing them away is almost like getting rid of a part of yourself. So, the next time your wardrobe is piled up with unnecessary junk, consider using one of these methods to clear it out and make your home gorgeous at the same time.
And speaking of a gorgeous home, are you looking for something more? Something special?
