The sub 4 metre SUV from Maruti, codenamed YBA was spotted being tested in Shimla. The production ready prototype is on its final testing leg, before the market launch that would take place in the Auto Expo of 2016.
The shots of the interiors reveal a no-nonsense, clutter free design that is reminiscent of Maruti products. The all black dashboard had a piano black outline for the central console and is complemented by fabric seats in black. Several parts and switches have been carried over from the Maruti Swift.
The YBA that was spotted shall most likely be the top model as it has been equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system. The SmartPlay system supports navigation, Bluetooth streaming and doubles up as a display unit for reverse camera and is enabled with the CarPlay feature as well.
The controls for the automated climate control system have been enabled right under the SmartPlay system. A large storage space is provided below it as well. The manual transmission on YBA is a 5 speed unit, even though the CVT could be introduced with petrol engine, just as it is in the Baleno. It is also interesting that the YBA has been given cruise controlling system, which is a feature introduced only in the S Cross crossover.
The Maruti YBA shall be powered by the same engine used on the Maruti Swift, a 1.3 L DDiS diesel and a 1.2 Litre K Series petrol one. It shall rival the Mahindra TUV 300 and Ford EcoSport upon being launched.
