National Green Tribunal Gives Notice To Delhi Government And Centre On Modification Of Diesel Ban

As per reports, a notice has been issued by the NGT to the Centre as well as the Delhi Government. This is in relation to the plea that seeks modifications of the diesel ban order imposed by it last week.

The National Green Tribunal had earlier ordered that new diesel vehicle registrations would be banned and also urged the state and Central governments to refrain from purchasing new diesel vehicles. Senior advocate Pinaki Mishra, on behalf of Delhi car dealerships, has asked for a modification of this order on particular grounds. This modification plea states that 2015 manufactured diesel cars should be allowed for sale as the currently existing stock would be completely obsolete by 2016.

The National Green Tribunal accepted the plea on Monday. It also issued notices to the Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, asking them to clearly take a stance on rising pollution in the Capital. The acceptance of the plea may come as a minor relief for carmakers and dealerships though long term implications still continue to be a source of worry for many.
