As per reports, the production version of this compact SUV called the Nexon will be shown at the Auto Expo 2016.
Tata’s all new Nexon compact SUV was first seen testing on the Pune Highway. The prototype displayed was a diesel variant and the Tata X104 codename was pasted on the rear axle. The compact SUV project is named Osprey and Tata is now expected to showcase the production model at the Auto Expo 2016, 24 months after the concept was first shown by the company.
The Tata Osprey is already based on the X1 platform used by the Vista. The Osprey will be under 4 metres and will compete against the Maruti SUV YBA (likely to be named as the Maruti Vitara Brezza), Mahindra TUV300 and Ford EcoSport. The spy shots have revealed ground clearance between 180-190 mm. This will also be appreciated by customers and Tata loyalists. Tata may also choose to mount the spare wheel on the boot lid. This will infuse extra ruggedness into the Osprey.
The compact SUV based on Nexon should be coming with four cylinder diesel and petrol engines. The petrol engine should be based on the all new Revotron engine range which is all-aluminum. The diesel engine could be based on the MultiJet Fiat unit or even the new in-house Revotorq engine. The compact SUV will be showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 and the market launch will be taking place expectedly by the second half of 2016. Prices of this vehicle should start from INR 5 lakhs as per ex-showroom figures.
