Introduction:
The Maruti Suzuki DZire is available in three variants, L, V and Z and there are two engine options available. The petrol engine comes with an automatic option and the diesel comes only with a manual.
Design:
The DZire’s the compact sedan version of the Swift and it shows. The design of the DZire is the same like the Swift till the rear seat, after which it changes as it forms a boot. The DZire has got a facelift and now it has a new thick chrome grille and this has been done to add some more premium-ness to the styling. There is the large S logo that sits proudly at the centre saying its a Suzuki. The headlamps of the DZire have the smoked effect and this makes it look a lot more appealing. There are the new fog lamps with the chrome added to it.
The side profile of the DZire looks the same. The only change is the new allow wheel design. The DZire has a long bonnet and a short boot. This is to make it under four metres in length. This reduces the duty on the hatchback. The side profile of the DZire has blacked out pillars, which are carried forward from the Swift. The rear design of the DZire gets more chrome treatment too. It gets a new set of tail lamps and the bumper too is large and muscular. The boot forms the shape that makes it look like an integrated spoiler. This has a ground clearance of 170mm. The base and mid variants are equipped with 14-inches 165/80 R14 steel wheels (L and V variants), while the top-model is offered with 15-inches 185/65 R15 alloys (Z variant). The colours on the DZire are Arctic White, Silky Silver, Cave Black, Magma Grey, Alp Blue and Sangria Red.
Interiors:
The interiors of the DZire are also derived from the Swift, however this looks a lot more premium with the dual colours black and beige. Then there are these subtle touches of wooden inserts that make the DZire look classy. The DZire has a three spoke steering wheel with new added buttons at the bottom of the arm for calling. There are controls on the steering wheel also. The list of features on the DZire include keyless entry, push start and stop button, integrated music system with USB and aux input and then now there is even bluetooth as well. The music system even has four speakers and two tweeters.
The higher variants also get automatic climate control and all four power windows as well. The DZire continues to get the same music system, with some changes to the speakers. A rear accessory socket has been added to the DZire. This is very easy to charge your phone if you are sitting at the back.
The DZire has been made for those who like to drive and even for those that are driven around. Maruti Suzuki has ensured good space in the front and at the rear too. The DZire has a boot that is about 315 litres.
Engine and Specifications:
The DZire comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine that churns about 83bhp of power and 115Nm of maximum torque. This comes mated to a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission. The diesel one is the 1.3-litre with 75bp of power, 190Nm of torque and this comes with a five-speed manual transmission too. The DZire’s automatic comes only on the mid-level variant. There isn’t a CNG variant available at the moment on the DZire, though it is the Ertiga that has a CNG. These engines are all BS-IV norms and have 16 valves in total.
Mileage:
The ARAI claimed mileage for the DZire petrol manual is 20.85km/l, while that for the diesel manual is 26.59km/l. In the real world, it is about 13km/l and 16km/l for the petrol and diesel models.
Safety:
The safety features on the DZire are dual airbags and ABS, and these are available on the top-of-the-line variant. The DZire’s lower trims do not get these features. The other safety features on the DZire are reverse parking sensor, immobiliser and speed sensitive door locks. The front brakes on the DZire are ventilated disc brakes and the rear has drum brakes.
