As per information garnered from Renault dealerships, the Kwid is a huge hit with prospective Indian car buyers and has managed to impress them hugely.
The Kwid was Renault’s first offering in the immensely lucrative and popular entry level hatchback segment. However, where the Kwid impressed was its pioneering SUV inspired design with 180 mm of ground clearance in addition to the rugged styling and compact crossover meets SUV appeal. The car boasts of several other pioneering features like a touch screen infotainment system for the top models along with navigation. The car is more spacious and larger in comparison to competitors like the Maruti Alto 800 and Hyundai Eon.
This is a budget vehicle that offers greater value for money and has naturally attracted a whopping 50, 000 bookings since its September 24 launch. According to multiple Renault dealerships in major Indian cities, prospective customers are falling for ride quality, attractive styling, SUV lineage and more cabin space. Additionally, dealerships claim that the RXT (O) and RXT models are witnessing greater demand owing to their avalanche of features. Most buyers are first time owners according to dealers.
Despite being highly impressed with this car, what puts buyers off is the huge waiting period for the Kwid. This could be a big deterrent to the eventual success of the Kwid according to dealers. The Renault Kwid’s waiting period presently ranges between four to six months in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi. Dealerships are worried as buyers in the entry level segment usually opt for vehicles that are readily available. Sustaining this positive momentum in sales will only be possible if the waiting period goes down according to them. A few buyers are also anxious about the after-sales network of Renault which is not as widely distributed as many other companies. However, the company is presently looking at expanding the same and this should not be an issue in the long run.
