In a surprising turn of events, Ford India has recalled approximately 16, 400 EcoSport compact SUVs that were manufactured between November 2013 and April 2014, one of the biggest such recall exercises for the company.
As per reports, a voluntary recall process has been initiated by Ford India for all its EcoSport compact SUVs that were manufactured between the month of November in 2013 and April in the corresponding year. This pertains to problems with the rear twist beam bolt that the company now wants to get fixed as swiftly as possible. As per company sources, it may be possible that the rear twist beam bolt may not be suitably tightened as per specifications, thereby causing breakage of pivot bolts. This is why the company seeks to investigate these cars to ferret out such problems and fix them at the earliest. The entire issue could definitely impact the handling of the car and even result in problematic accidents though none of the same have been reported to the company or media till date.
This recall should definitely give Ford time to carry out damage control before things spin out of control. This recall will pertain to just the 16, 400 EcoSport compact SUVs that were sold in the above mentioned period. According to the company’s statement, it is acting proactively by contacting customers for voluntary inspections of their EcoSport vehicles that were manufactured at the Chennai plant of the company between the aforementioned time period. This relates to a potential rear twist beam bolt concern and may or may not be a binding issue. The EcoSport is one of the most popular and high selling cars for Ford India and it is leaving no stone unturned to retain its customer base.
