BMW Motorrad premiered the BMW Concept Stunt G310 at South America’s largest motorcycle show in Brazil. With the new concept, BMW Motorrad is presenting a sub-500cc motorcycle which would be a first for the German motorcycle manufacturer. This move was long anticipated after BMW Motorrad partnered with TVS, one of India’s largest motorcycle manufacturers, back in 2013.

The BMW Concept Stunt G310, is an uncompromising interpretation of an aggressive and agile stunt bike based on their study of the single cylinder engine. “Street. Stunt. Style.” is the tag line for the newly unveiled concept and it clearly shows BMW Motorrad’s intention to attract young riders.

The BMW Concept Stunt G310 was conceived with major involvement and contribution from the recently retired four time Streetbike Freestyle World Champion stunt rider Chris Pfeiffer. The concept features a newly developed compact single-cylinder engine which is mounted in an angle inclined towards the rear. The cylinder head is also rotated by 180-degrees for optimum placement in the frame to provide a small wheelbase. This means that the intake for the engine is at the front of the bike and the exhaust is at the rear unlike regular single-cylinder motorcycles. This gives the BMW Concept Stunt G310 a low slung front. That along with the raised tail section would make the bike fast and nimble to change direction. Also, moving the exhaust to the rear allows the silencer to be in an upright position between the engine and the rear swing-arm and suspension unit where it is well protected and does not compromise the stunt rider’s freedom of movement.

The bike also features many modifications keeping the stunt bike theme in mind. It has many interesting bits like a lockable throttle, over-sized rear brakes with dual callipers, an additional rear brake lever below the clutch lever, an extended swing-arm, axle-pegs, crash bars, non-slip seat and the beautifully crafted Aluminium stunt tail. All of which are required by a stunt rider to pull gravity-defying stunts. This along with a close gear ratio that has been altered to provide grunt at lower revs makes the bike a potent stunt machine.

The styling constitutes of strong three-dimensional design surfaces and striking lines which give the BMW Concept Stunt G310 a sense of speed even when stationary. The concept was unveiled in the classic BMW motorsport colour, white, as the base paint with combination of the bright Brazilian national flag colours.

All in all, the design of the BMW Concept Stunt G310 is captivating and seems like BMW is being bold using the strategy utilized by KTM when it released the smaller displacement range. Hopefully, the new design and technology we see on this concept would make it to production models in the near future. And, more importantly, expect BMW Motorrad along with TVS to push forward these smaller capacity bikes into the Indian market in the near future.
