Suzuki GSX-S1000 Recalled Due To Faulty Front Brakes

Posted 8 years ago by QuikrCars | 229 views

Just recently we saw the recall for the Yamaha R1 owing to a faulty gear in the transmission. This time it is Suzuki which has recalled the GSX-S1000 and the GSX-S1000F. The recall is due to a possible issue with the front brake callipers that might lead to a leakage of brake fluid which could be dangerous.

A report has been submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stating that this issue would compromise the safety of the rider. At the moment, an estimated 600 units of the Suzuki GSX-S1000 and Suzuki GSX-S1000F might be affected by the recall in the USA alone. The report from Suzuki says that the faulty components for the GSX-S1000 were manufactured between 10th July and 24th August. Whereas, the faulty components of the GSX-S1000F were manufactured between 21st July and 27th July earlier this year.

Suzuki have explained the cause of the issue in their report and have determined that the surface treatment of the callipers as the root cause for the defect. The report states that the seal groove in the brake piston bore might get damaged due to the surface treatment and result in the leakage of the brake fluid. The supplier of the brakes, apply the surface treatment in order to change the colour of the brake callipers.

Initially, the leakage of the brake fluid from the brake callipers might lead to the brake fluid leak out onto the tyre resulting in a loss of traction. More severe case of the defect would also lead to failure of the front brakes. Both these cases would prove to be fatal or might lead to accidents.

Suzuki will contact the respective owners of the affected bikes informing them about the recall and the issue. Authorized Suzuki dealerships will be replacing the front brakes with new ones on the affected motorcycles free of charge. The new front brake callipers will simply not get the surface treatment in order to avoid the defect completely.

There have not been any reports of accidents due to this issue with the Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F. The recall is global and not just US specific. The recall has been announced in many other countries as well including Australia and other European countries. Suzuki is currently getting in touch individually with the customers affected and directing them to their nearest authorized Suzuki service centres. So, if you are a GSX-S1000 or GSX-S1000F owner, it’s best that you get in touch with your dealership at the earliest.
