Uber, one of the world’s leading ridesharing entities has recently announced a partnership with Chinese automobile manufacturer Guangzhou Automobile Group.

Uber announced its partnership with leading Chinese automobile maker Guangzhou Automobile Group yesterday. The twain will work together in specific areas like sales, investment, new energy vehicle promotion, marketing and so on. The new energy thrust areas will include electric and hybrid cars. Strategic partnership terms would include the promotion of GAC automobiles by Uber China and the group’s trading platform for used cars would also be promoted with a view towards enabling ridesharing for partners and drivers.

According to the head of strategy at Uber China, Zhen Liu, new opportunities can evolve and this might lead to newer transportation possibilities for riders throughout the country. Uber had its China launch in February 2014 and currently has a significant presence in 21 cities in the country. It is planning to ramp up to 100 cities within another year. The Uber head had earlier stated how the company had spent approximately a billion dollars for gaining ground in Chinese markets. Uber still remains second to Didi Kuaidi, the most popular ride-hailing app in China. However, it is still pumping resources in the rapidly growing ride-sharing segment in China according to company sources.
