Expected Sub-INR 2 Lakh Performance Bikes for 2016

Posted 8 years ago by QuikrCars | 4326 views

Earlier, the two-wheeler market in India was mainly focussed on commuter vehicles. But in recent years the scales seem to be tipping more and more towards performance oriented bikes. With a growing market for affordable performance motorcycles, the manufacturers are actively shifting their focus towards products that fulfil the changing needs of the buyers. Being the last month of 2015, we take a look at affordable performance bikes for 2016 that would cost under INR 2 Lakhs.

 Yamaha MT-15

The Yamaha MT-15 is the naked version of its fully faired sport sibling, the Yamaha R15. The bike was recently launched in Indonesia where it carries the name Yamaha M-Slaz. The MT-15 is expected to make its debut at the Auto Expo 2016. The bike has aggressive and sharp styling which is borrowed from the bigger bikes in the MT family of Yamaha. The MT-15 will be powered by the engine from the R15 which is tuned to develop 16.8 bhp of power and 15 Nm of torque. It will also share most of the underpinnings along with USD front forks and a mean looking LED headlight assembly with DRLs.

Expected Price: INR 1.30-1.40 Lakh

 DSK Hyosung GD250R/DSK Hyosung GD250N

The quarter-litre, DOHC, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder powered GD250R and GD250N have been in the news from as early as July this year. Both the bikes share stunning looks and modern design lines. The fully faired GD250R specially is a great looking bike. The possibility of DSK Hyosung launching these bikes in 2016 is very high. The claimed performance figures of these bikes are 27.6 bhp of maximum power and 24.1 Nm of torque. We expect the sport and naked versions of the GD250s to be launched in India at the Auto Expo 2016.

Expected Price: Below INR 2 Lakh

 Hero HX250R

Hero MotoCorp had unveiled this 250cc sports bike at the 2014 Auto Expo. The quarter-litre bike is expected to go on sale from the 1st quarter of 2016. The Hero HX250R has been developed in collaboration with the now troubled American motorcycle manufacturer Erik Buell Racing. The HX250R pumps out a massive 31 bhp power and 26 Nm of torque as claimed by Hero. The twin headlights, digital console, under-seat exhausts and electronic rider selectable modes make the Hero HX250R a great performance package.

Expected Price: INR 1.7 Lakhs

 TVS Apache 200

The new upcoming 200cc TVS Apache was spotted testing on several occasions in the recent months. Although there was not much that we could say about the bike by looking at it in its camouflaged avatar, we noticed a few interesting features. The bike comes with split seats, new LCD instrument cluster, offset fuel cap on the tank and finally a mono-shock at the rear. We can expect the new TVS Apache 200 to be unveiled at the Auto Expo in February.

Expected Price: Around INR 1.0 Lakh

 Bajaj Pulsar CS400

Bajaj displayed the Pulsar CS400 at the 2014 Auto Expo in Delhi announcing that they would be launching it by mid-2016. The Pulsar CS400 looks futuristic, muscular and tough without losing on the Pulsar styling DNA. The engine of the CS400 will be closely based on the KTM 390 platform which is a proven power plant. So we can expect similar power figures from the CS400 as the Duke 390 and RC 390.

Expected Price: Below INR 2 Lakhs

 Benelli TNT 25

Benelli just launched the new TNT 25 in India and it will arrive in dealerships by early January 2016. With the new TNT 25, Benelli is aiming to return to designing affordable commuter vehicles as it was known for in the past. The TNT 25 is powered by a 250cc single-cylinder engine which churns out a decent 28 bhp and 21 Nm of torque which takes it to a claimed top-end of 145kmph. The engine is paired with a 6-speed transmission and the TNT 25 also features a 16.5 litre fuel tank. Other eye-catching features include the USD front forks and adjustable levers which make the TNT 25 a great package. The Benelli TNT 25 has come to India as CKD units, which has enabled a competitive pricing.

Price: 1.68 lakh ex-showroom Delhi

Suzuki Gixxer 250

There were rumours recently that Suzuki have been working on a quarter-litre sports bike. The current Gixxer SF and its naked sibling have been well received in the Indian two-wheeler market. It will be really exciting to see Suzuki enter the competition with a new affordable quarter-litre performance bike. If the rumours are to be believed, we might get to see the new 250cc Gixxer in late 2016.

Expected Price: Below INR 2 Lakh

Which of these are our favourite bikes for 2016? We are very much interested to see the Yamaha MT-01 and the Hero HX250R, but what could really shake up the market in the performance and value for money segment could be the next generation TVS Apaches. If 2015 was great for motorcycles, 2016 promises to be even better.
