Mahindra Mojo Spotted Testing New ABS System

Posted 8 years ago by QuikrCars | 1175 views

The much awaited Mahindra Mojo was launched earlier this year in October. Although it took Mahindra five long years to get the Mojo production ready, it was really worth the wait. The bike proved to be an impressive touring machine. During the launch of the Mojo, Mahindra promised that the bike will be getting ABS in the near future. And soon enough the Mahindra Mojo was spotted testing with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS); confirming that Mahindra has been working on their promise.

The pictures show the Mojo strapped with testing equipment and it has ABS sensor rings at both the front and back brakes. This clearly suggests that the Mojo will have a dual-channel ABS system. The brakes are the same J.Juan units which are sourced from the Spanish component manufacturer which is also a part of the Mahindra Moto3 racing team. Furthermore, the ABS unit is reportedly sourced from the German OEM manufacturer Continental AG. We believe that the Mojo will be available only in the ABS version from next year.

The ABS system on the Mojo will be switchable as the source suggests. This means that the new ABS equipped Mojo will feature a new toggle switch for the ABS and also a new instrument cluster with the ABS indicator symbol. The introduction of the ABS for the Mahindra Mojo will also make the motorcycle ready for the upcoming mandatory safety norms which require all bikes above 125cc to have ABS.

The new Mojo with ABS will not see any other mechanical changes except for the addition of the ABS. The Mojo is powered by a 295cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine which outputs a maximum power of 28 PS and a peak torque of 30 Nm. The engine comes paired with a 6-speed transmission. We had a chance to test ride the Mojo earlier in October and the feeling about the bike was very positive. Apart from the unconventional looks and the 35W headlamps, we had not much to complain about the bike. Some of the other appealing features of the Mojo are the USD front forks and the huge 21-litre fuel tank. All these features in addition to the new ABS package make the Mojo a great touring package.

The Mahindra Mojo is currently priced at Rs. 1.7 lakh (ex-showroom Bangalore) approximately after they bumped-up the introductory price. The new Mojo with ABS would have a marginally higher price which would likely touch the Rs. 2 Lakh mark on-road. The Mahindra Mojo with ABS can be expected to go on sale by mid-2016.
