Nissan Group of India confirmed this development today which will affect vehicles under both Datsun and Nissan brands. This increase in prices will be due to the rising costs of input according to the Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, Arun Malhotra. According to him, a revision in prices will help soften this negative impact and enable greater competitiveness for the company.

Nissan’s portfolio in India includes the popular Micra hatchback and attractive compact SUV Terrano with prices ranging between INR 4.47 and 12.91 lakh as per ex-showroom Delhi estimates. The Datsun car lineup includes the Datsun Go Plus MPV (multi purpose vehicle) and the entry level hatchback Datsun Go. These are priced between INR 3.23 and 4.76 lakh as per ex-showroom Delhi figures. Nissan’s move comes after Maruti Suzuki India announced prices hikes up to INR 20, 000 for various models to offset the weakening of the Indian rupee against the US dollar and growing input costs. Hyundai Motor India had also announced hikes up to INR 30, 000 from January 2016 to tackle these rising costs and fluctuations in foreign exchange.

Other leading car companies have also announced price hikes including General Motors India, Toyota and luxury car brands like BMW and Mercedes Benz. According to experts, automobile companies usually make such announcements in the year-end period and this helps them clear out their inventories remaining post hefty festival discounts on their cars.
