General Motors to sell China made Buick Envision in the US

Posted 8 years ago by QuikrCars | 132 views

General Motors has stated that it shall sell a vehicle in the United States that was constructed in China the next year. They would be the first leading US automobiles maker to try such a feat. The move was fast denounced by the United Auto Workers union that branded it as an insult to the face and called for a rethink.

General Motors has sold around 127,085 Buick Envision cars made in the eastern region of Shandong since the month of January in China.

The car maker intends to important thirty to forty thousand vehicles every year, amid the higher demand for pickup trucks and 4X4 crossovers in the US, where oil prices have dropped

The announcement was made as the cost of labour was increasing for General Motors in the United States following a wage deal that was currently being finalised. Cindy Estrada, the UAW director and Vice President of General Motors has commented that the announcement of the Envision being imported from China is akin to an insult of US taxpayers and the women and men that worked very hard to save General Motors at their darkest times.

China was classified as the biggest market for General Motors the previous year. However, a slowdown in the country’s economy has given North America the chance to regain its top position in the first nine months of 2015. The previous months, General Motors, whose brands Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet, has sold more than 1 lakh Buick vehicles in China, compared to only 19,000 in the US.
