Heavy Industries Minister Says Volkswagen is Guilty of Cheating

According to Anant Geete, the Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises Minister, the government will also be checking vehicles of all car manufacturers to determine any violations of emission guidelines.

According to the minister, Volkswagen is definitely guilty of cheating on emission norms and further action taken on the company will be the prerogative of the ministry of road transport and highways. A showcase notice had been sent to Volkswagen and they had accepted the violations post which they voluntarily decided to recall their vehicles according to him. Further action will be taken by the ministry led by Nitin Gadkari. Testing is also currently ongoing for four automobile companies and all manufacturers will be covered by the government within six months. This is part of the government’s decision to test vehicles of all carmakers in India to determine any violations of emission norms.

Volkswagen has decided to recall 3.23 lakh diesel cars in India which were fitted with emission cheating software. This comprehensive procedure will be commencing from this month onwards. The government’s remarks and its decision to go ahead with testing for all car makers and their models bears huge relevance for the sector which has just witnessed a healthy festive season in October and November.
