Japan Aims For the Maintenance of Renault-Nissan Alliance

Posted 8 years ago by QuikrCars | 100 views

Nissan is currently involved in a logjam with the French government which had increased its stake in Renault to 19.7% in April from the 15% it held earlier. This secured double voting rights for the government.

Japan has now urged the companies to continue their productive alliance amidst speculations that the Japanese car company may increase its stake in Renault to ward off the French government’s strategies to increase its control over this partnership. According to Japanese government spokespersons, the government would like the two companies to come up with ways and means to build and maintain this relationship. According to them, the government is also open towards providing official support for the maintenance of the same.

Nissan has been locked in a standoff with the French government post the increase of the latter’s stake in its French partner. With the securing of double voting rights, there has been widespread speculation over the French government’s bid to ramp up control over the alliance in general. Nissan had earlier shied away from commenting on the issues that it held a special board meeting for on Monday. It remains to be seen whether the Japanese government’s request is put into action by the two companies.
