The all new BMW 7 series has been previewed in India and comes with a long wheelbase. This should make use of the V8 petrol and straight-six diesel engines.

BMW recently previewed its all new 7 series ultra premium limousine in India. This was shown at a Goa based private event and was earlier globally unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This will be a substitute for the previous generation model in India and will be launched in 2016.

The new 7 series looks considerably bigger in comparison to its predecessor and comes with a brand new lightweight platform. The weight of the car has been lowered by a whopping 130 kg owing to the usage of high strength steel, carbon fiber and aluminum. The new car gets futuristic and evolved styling touches with a more pronounced grille and active louvers. There are optional laser or LED headlamps in addition to LED tail lamps, prominent shoulders, modified rear bumper, higher glasshouse and a boot that is high set.

The new 7 series also comes with an all new dashboard design that is most appealing to look at and use. The controls are new and the digital instrument graphics have been updated. These are illuminated in red, white or blue as per the driving mode chosen. The multi-function steering wheel has been carefully redesigned while the front seats now come with massage and ventilation features. New technology features include the latest iDrive software complete with gesture and touch controls in addition to a drive select function, night vision, heads-up display and engine start-stop functions. The car also possesses radar safety functions but whether they will be available in the Indian model is anyone’s guess.

The new 7 series should come with the six cylinder 3.0 litre turbo-diesel engine that dishes out 261 BHP or the V8 4.4 litre twin-turbo petrol engine that churns out 444 BHP. The long wheelbase guise will be used for this new car and it will compete with the Audi A8 and Mercedes Benz S-Class post its 2016 launch.
